About Saint Takyi,

Saint Takyi (b. 1997, Amsterdam) is a figurative artist who uses narrative in their works. They graduated in MA Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2024, supported by the Sir Frank Bowling scholarship. They recently became the winner of the prestigious 2024 Ingram Art Prize. Saint uses the colour blue as a base, leaning on blue’s rarity in nature to create environments with ephemeral humanoids that symbolise the narratives from their daydreams, and memories. Their practice fuses elements of Ghanaian folklore and worldbuilding with anthropological photography.

Their journey as an artist began with their fascination with portraiture, and desire to paint hidden aspects of a person - capturing the unseen. Working with painting, sculpture, drawing and writing, the figures in the works reflect the artist’s feeling of looking at photography of people who could potentially be their relative. Something tangible yet distant. With their art they aim to offer the viewer an insight to different perspectives and ways of looking - as visitor, anthropologist, and native to the lands and scenes they create.

Alongside their artistic practice, their learning practice centres community engagement. As educator, they have worked with local communities in London, Hertfordshire, and Coventry, programming workshops for children, young adults, individuals with complex needs, and co-created workshops with schools.
