African Vessels

A Mindful clay workshop with artists Saint Akua and Alondene Phillips at Milton Keynes Arts Centre

In this mindful workshop, we made ceramic clay pots inspired by West African pottery. Most African cultures hold a deep belief in animism - a belief that objects, places, and animals possess a spiritual essence. African ceramics balance function and design, drawing inspiration from nature and animals to represent ideals. Exploring these crafts particularly from Burkina Faso, Ghana, Mali, Nigeria, and Congo, we made pots that represent us as vessels.
