En Route

Considering recent times, we as humans have had to quarantine and distance ourselves. Social distancing at home can help us come to grips with the hidden aspects of ourselves that we have overlooked, and during this time many of us are focusing on what we will do when we're out.

This painting centres the isolated single woman, a woman like me. This is a fantasy self-portrait of a woman I would like to be. Some may think that she's a maiden waiting for her lover or some may misconstrue her aloneness for loneliness. She is clothed in white like a dove symbolising a new beginning and her gaze is fixed upon her future, she's coming into her own. In the midst of the storm that is brewing in the background, she remains calm and wants the viewer to not gaze at her like she is weak for she is poised and ready for the new world that awaits her out of isolation. The unfinished part of the painting reinforces the idea that she is just starting on her journey- en route.
